Help me find a wheelchair liveable home

My story

I’m Ed and I have motor neurone disease (MND).

I’ve been searching for a “wheelchair liveable” home in central London for months without luck. I’m frustrated and astonished it is this hard. So now, I’m trying a direct approach through video, social media, and this website!

First, I want to clarify that I am not seeking financial support or sympathy. I am asking for your help in finding a suitable home – your knowledge and your network.

MND is a fast-progressing disease that weakens my muscles and is terminal, with about half of people passing away within two years of diagnosis. This creates an urgent need for me because, within a few months, I will likely need a wheelchair and a live-in carer. My current home is not wheelchair-accessible, and is not adaptable to suit my needs.

Why London? My medical team is there, many friends are there, and I love the theatre, museums, and easy access to travel.

Why rent, not buy? Being blunt, purchasing a home will tie up too much of my capital – money I need for medical costs and to fund achieving my bucket list during the last few years of my life.

What am I looking for?

I’m looking to rent a wheelchair accessible property with at least three bedrooms.  It could be an apartment or a house.

3 bed +

Single or multiple storeys

If more than one floor, a bedroom/bathroom on the living floor, or space for a through-floor lift.

Large en-suite wet room

Ideally 2.5 x 2.4m

Private outside space

Garden, terrace or large balcony

Dedicated parking

Preferably a garage, but in any case suitable for a wheelchair accessible vehicle.
